Five persons have been confirmed dead with five others in critical condition, following an attack suspected to be linked with armed robbery at Gbenyiri.

Police sources say, the attack which occurred on Friday, March 6, 2026, involved the killing of a local man by persons suspected to be of Fulani extraction in what is suspected to be an armed robbery attack

The locals in a reprisal attack killed four Fulani herdsmen with five others seriously injured.

The five are currently receiving treatment at the Wa and Sawla Government Hospitals.

Police in Sawla have already commenced investigations into the matter.

REGSEC intervention 

On Saturday, March 7, members of the Savannah Regional Security Council after an emergency meeting in Damongo, visited Gbenyiri and other affected communities to restore calm.

Savannah Regional Minister, Salisu Bi-Awurbi, has described the incident as unjustifiable, terrible and unacceptable.

“We will make sure that anyone linked to this crime will be arrested and prosecuted“

Some relative calm has since been restored in the area.
