Staff of the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), under the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU), have announced an indefinite nationwide strike action set to begin on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

They have cited unresolved grievances with Management.

In a formal notice addressed to the Director-General of TVET Service, the Union directed all its members to withdraw their services until authorities take “concrete and satisfactory steps” to address a litany of concerns affecting staff welfare and career progression.

The directive, signed by the Divisional IMC Secretary, Seth Botchway on behalf of the GTVET-PSWU Division, accused Management of failing to engage meaningfully with workers despite earlier communication dated March 10, 2026.

“This action has become necessary due to Management’s failure to resolve the concerns raised by members,” the statement said, while reaffirming the Union’s willingness to return to the negotiating table if issues are treated with urgency.

Key issue raised
Central to the strike are longstanding complaints about delays in promotions, upgrades, and the proper placement of qualified staff in appropriate ranks. Workers also raised concerns over unpaid promotion arrears stemming from the 2024 promotion exercise.

The Union further cited widespread errors during staff migration processes, which it said resulted in downgrades and inconsistencies in rank placement for several teachers. Confusion over the classification of professional and non-professional staff has also deepeemployee dissatisfactionyees.

Other concerns include:
Non-payment of acting and responsibility allowances for officers serving in higher roles.

Prolonged acting appointments without confirmation for senior positions such as principals and directors, as well as delays in paying workshop and practical allowances for instructors. Challenges arising from some teachers remaining on the Ghana Education Service payroll

Additionally, the Union pointed to fragmented representation systems, where workers under the same service are affiliated with different unions and paid by separate agencies, as a source of administrative inefficiency.

While urging members to comply strictly with the strike directive, the Union called for calm, discipline, and adherence to the law throughout the industrial action.
