The Ashanti Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for the robbers of the deadly attack on Berekum Chelsea Sunday night.

The incident has resulted in the unfortunate demise of striker Dominic Frimpong, who is said to have been rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital after sustaining serious gunshot wounds.

Police patrol teams responded to distress calls and proceeded to the scene where the VIP bus carrying the players, 30 in all, had skidded into the bush.

The police said the bus skidded into the bush in an attempt to escape from the six armed men, three of whom were wielding pump-action guns.

“During the attack, Dominic Frimpong, a footballer, sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but unfortunately passed away while receiving treatment.

“Another victim, George Owusu Afriyie, 52, was also robbed of GH¢4,500.”

According to the police, two spent BB cartridges were retrieved from the scene as part of investigations.

The Command said additional personnel including crime scene experts have been deployed to the area as manhunt is launched.

“The police assure the public that the perpetrators will be arrested within the shortest possible time.”

They urged the public to remain calm and continue to have confidence in the police.
