Three persons sustained injuries after a fuel tanker crashed into multiple vehicles at Ahodwo near Ridge Condos, Kumasi.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in its situational report said on Thursday April 16, 2026, at 12:24 hours, it responded to a road traffic crash involving a fuel tanker (GT 8073-22), Kia Morning (AS 310-21), and Hyundai Santa Fe (DV-D1517) at Ahodwo near Ridge Condos, Kumasi.

The first crew from Kejetia Fire Station, led by STNO II Awudu, safeguarded the scene, while reinforcement from Regional Headquarters cooled the tanker’s 54,000-litre petrol load to prevent fire or explosion.

The three drivers of the crashed vehicles were rescued by the public and conveyed to hospital, while the tanker driver’s mate escaped unhurt.

The Kia Morning was severely damaged, while the tanker head, Hyundai Santa Fe, and eighteen vehicles at a nearby auto sales garage sustained partial damage.

Firefighters, with police support, ensured scene safety and security, controlled crowds, prevented fuel theft, and managed traffic. Continuous cooling was maintained until a GNFS recovery truck towed the tanker to safety, with a Mercedes-Benz and other vehicles successfully salvaged.

The scene was cleared of hazards, traffic restored, and the area declared safe and secured.

No fatalities were recorded. The crew returned to base at 6PM, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The GNFS commends all supporting agencies for their immense support in successfully managing the situation.
