The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has announced a temporary suspension on the processing of applications for institutional registration as part of efforts to strengthen quality assurance within the tertiary education sector.

In a statement issued on Friday, April 17, the Commission said the measure forms part of ongoing quality assurance and regulatory enhancement efforts aimed at reviewing and refining existing regulatory standards to align with emerging trends and international best practices within the tertiary education sector.

GTEC advised prospective applicants and institutions seeking to establish tertiary institutions in Ghana to instead pursue the Institutional Accreditation pathway during the period of the suspension, describing it as the appropriate route for establishment and operation.

The Commission clarified that the directive does not affect institutions that have already been accredited under the Institutional Registration framework.

GTEC noted that such institutions are expected to continue operating in line with the terms and conditions of their existing approvals.

GTEC expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their cooperation, noting that the ongoing reforms are necessary to safeguard the quality and integrity of tertiary education in the country.
