The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has presided over the destoolment of a royal spokesperson, Otumfuo Kyeame Kofi Nti, following a series of allegations relating to his conduct, handling of traditional oaths and questions over his eligibility, sources familiar with the matter said.
The decision was taken at an Asanteman Council meeting on Monday, April 20,2026, where charges against the royal official were reviewed in line with Asante Kingdom customary procedures.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II oversaw proceedings that led to the removal of Kofi Nti from his position as Otumfuo Kyeame.
He was accused of questions surrounding his royal lineage, including concerns raised about his ability to properly invoke the Otumfuo Ntam Kɛseɛ, a sacred oath within the Asante traditional system.
The Council’s deliberations also focused on allegations that he improperly handled and retained multiple invocations of the oath beyond customary practice, as well as failing to report them as required of his office.
Additional claims from the Ayaasehene regarding the alleged improper enstoolment of a divisional chief were also considered during the proceedings.
The Council ultimately ruled for his destoolment, effectively stripping him of his traditional authority role.
