A 36-year-old woman has been arrested by the Eastern Regional Police Command in connection with the abduction and attempt to traffic a nine-year-old girl from Agormanya Zongo in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality to Kenya.
The suspect was arraigned before the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court, where she pleaded not guilty. She has been remanded into Police custody and is expected to reappear on May 5 for a case management conference.
According to police reports, the victim’s father lodged a complaint on Sunday, April 19, after discovering that his daughter, who had left home earlier, had not returned.
Subsequent investigations by the Odumase-Krobo District Police, with support from BNI personnel at the Accra International Airport, led to the rescue of the child at the airport.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect was attempting to send the victim to Kenya.
The child has since been safely reunited with her father.
The Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Bridget Opoku, has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the Police.
