Black Stars Head Coach Carlos Queiroz has admitted that the senior national men’s soccer team is bigger than he thought.
He said the rousing welcome he received at the Accra International Airport on his arrival on Wednesday tells a lot about the “soul” of the team.
“Since I arrived I have started to feel it that this is the soul of the Black Stars, ” the Portuguese said in his preliminary statement on Thursday as he was put before the press for questions on his vision for the team.
“I know this is the soul of the Black Stars. [On Wednesday] I saw and felt the vibration and realised that the soul of the Black Stars is huge.”
He added: “That means our dreams and expectations are also huge.”
He also noted that in all the eight national teams he has managed, the Black Stars job presents the “biggest challenge”.
“And I am ready for that!”
The former South Africa coach is expected to lead the Black Stars’ challenge at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), he has been contracted to be in charge for four months.
He will work with some of the backroom staff of the immediate past technical team.
Queiroz is expected to return home to prepare for start of work from next week, according to the GFA.
