A total of 45,116 candidates will sit for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Western region, marking a 2.81 per cent increase from the 2025 academic year.
According to official examination data, 33,219 candidates are from public schools, while 11,897 are enrolled in private schools.
This year’s examination sees a notable gender gap in favor of female candidates.
A total of 23,112 females are registered to write the exam, compared to 22,004 males – a difference of 1,108 more girls than boys.
The regional examination will be conducted across 154 centres. Authorities have deployed 188 police officers to ensure security, while supervision will be handled by 1,560 invigilators and 157 supervisors.
Officials say all arrangements have been finalized to ensure a smooth and credible examination process across the region.
The Western Regional Director of Education, Emmanuel Essuman, has urged BECE candidates to avoid examination malpractices and emphasized the importance of punctuality, encouraging students to arrive at their centers on time.
