President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, May 1, 2026 cut the sod in Asesewa for the construction of 33 modern 24hour Economy Markets across all 33 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Eastern Region.
This marks a major step in the government’s push to operationalise a 24hour economy in the country.
The ceremony, held in the Upper Manya Krobo District will position Asesewa as a thriving commercial hub.
The Divisional Chief of Manya Krobo, Nene Tagbaja was grateful to President Mahama for the market.
“We appreciate the 24hour Economy Market in Asesewa,” he said.

The Chief however called for rehabilitation of roads in the area.
“Our Roads need to be fixed to facilitate easy transportation of food stuffs to the market. Mr President, my villages provide many foodstuffs to feed Ghana, so fix our roads in Asesewa,” he said.
The Chief also highlighted a longstanding concern that communities in the district continue to face water supply challenges.
“Mr President, we are facing serious water challenges, this is critical for our people,” he appealed.
President Mahama stressed the importance of the 24hour market.
“This is not just a project. It is the restoration of dignity and pride and an opportunity to review the economic life of our people,” he said.
He acknowledged that without urgent intervention in road infrastructure within the district, the farming communities would struggle to transport produce to the market.
