Residents and school authorities in the Bia East district of the Western North region have expressed excitement following the commencement of several development projects by the Member of Parliament for the area, Richard Acheampong.
The projects, which were launched through a sod-cutting ceremony, will benefit communities including Suma, Camp Junction, Akwabenkrom, Baamoa and Abotare Ye.
They include the construction of six-unit classroom blocks with ancillary facilities, portable drinking water systems and other community development interventions aimed at improving education and living conditions.
Residents say the projects come as a relief, particularly for communities battling poor infrastructure and limited access to clean water.
Contractors undertaking the projects have been given up to one year to complete the works.
Some head teachers who attended the ceremony expressed gratitude to the MP for prioritizing educational development but appealed for more teachers to be posted to schools within the constituency.
According to them, teacher shortages continue to affect effective teaching and learning in some schools despite ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure.
“We are grateful for this intervention. The classroom infrastructure will support teaching and learning, but we are also appealing for more teachers because some of our schools do not have enough staff to effectively handle academic work.”
Speaking in an interview, Richard Acheampong reaffirmed his commitment to delivering development projects to improve the welfare of his constituents.
He noted that education, access to potable water and improved social amenities remain central to his development agenda for the constituency.
“We remain committed to bringing development closer to the people.
“These projects are intended to improve education, access to water and the wellbeing of our communities.”
The MP further emphasized the commitment of President John Dramani Mahama toward infrastructure development and improving living standards across the country.
Residents and school authorities remain hopeful the projects will be completed within the stipulated timeline, while calls for additional teachers receive urgent attention.
