Media General’s Takoradi-based Connect FM has officially launched the 2026 edition of the highly anticipated Connect Western Best Brains (CWBB) quiz competition.
The competition reaffirms its position as a pace setter in educational programming and community-focused broadcasting in the Western Region.
Now in its sixth year, the flagship academic competition has grown into one of the region’s most respected educational initiatives, using radio as a platform to promote academic excellence, critical thinking and confidence-building among Junior High School students.
This year’s edition brings together twenty-seven basic schools drawn from eleven districts across the Western Region to compete for the coveted championship trophy, laptops and other educational packages.
Since its introduction in 2020, Connect Western Best Brains has consistently expanded in reach and impact, evolving from a metropolitan-level competition into a widely recognised regional academic platform that continues to attract support from the Ghana Education Service, school authorities, teachers, parents and corporate institutions.
The competition is designed to support effective preparation for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) while sharpening students’ analytical abilities, reasoning skills, teamwork, public speaking and recall abilities through subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Science, Current Affairs and General Knowledge.
Events and Promotions Manager, ConnectFM Paa Kwesi Simpson said the initiative forms part of the station’s broader commitment to using media as a tool for transformation and human development.
“We want to continue demonstrating the role radio can play in driving transformation in our communities. Through initiatives like Connect Western Best Brains, Connect FM is providing young learners with a platform to challenge themselves academically while building confidence and healthy competitive spirit,” he said.
Connect FM, a subsidiary of Media General, has over the years built a reputation for impactful programming and community-centred initiatives across the Western Region. The station has consistently been recognised for using its platform to champion education, public engagement and social development.
Representing the Western Regional Director of Education, Sekondi-Takoradi Metro Director of Education, Edmund Aggrey Forson, encouraged participating schools to embrace the competition fully and use it as an avenue to strengthen academic performance and student development.
Defending champions Tessark International School also shared the impact of the competition on their institution. Headmaster Harry Arkhurst said winning the competition significantly boosted the school’s visibility and public recognition.
“Winning Connect Western Best Brains brought honour, recognition and unforgettable memories to our school community. The competition enhanced the image of the school and positively influenced enrolment and public confidence in the institution,” he stated.
Over the years, several contestants who participated in CWBB have gone on to excel academically at the senior high school level, with some earning regional and national recognition for outstanding academic performance.
The first round of the 2026 Connect Western Best Brains competition is scheduled for July 1 and 2, 2026. This year’s edition is sponsored by Best Brain Publications Limited, Varcity College, Dext Technology and Edu Pack.
Other supporters include Damp-proof Cement powder, Kart Multimedia, Aboba Alfah Educational Foundation and GG Images.
This year’s edition presents another opportunity for corporate institutions and development-oriented organisations to align with a credible educational brand that continues to shape young minds and contribute meaningfully to educational development in the Western Region.
