The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has announced the death of a Ghanaian prospective pilgrim in Mecca during this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.

In a statement issued on Friday, May 22, 2026, PAOG said the deceased, identified as Mr. Musah Sidi, 53, collapsed while performing Tawaf at the Haram and passed away shortly afterwards.

Tawaf is the ritual act of circumambulating the Holy Kaaba as part of Islamic worship during Hajj and Umrah.

According to the statement, the family of the deceased has been informed, while preparations were underway for Janaza prayers after Jummah prayers before burial.

The Pilgrims Affairs Office described the passing of the pilgrim during worship as a blessed end in Islamic tradition.

“Passing away while performing Tawaf is considered a profound blessing and a sign of a beautiful ending for a blessed Muslim,” the statement noted.

PAOG also expressed condolences to the bereaved family, sympathisers and loved ones, praying for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness upon the deceased.

The statement was signed by Mohammed Amin Lamptey, Director of Communications of the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana.
