The La NkwantanangMadina Municipal Assembly (LANMMA) has said it push for the arrest and prosecution of the developer of the building that collapsed in Adenta for allegedly defying a stop-work order issued by the Assembly.

Speaking to the media after visiting the site on Thursday, June 4, 2026 Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Ibrahim Faila Fuseini noted that the Assembly granted approval for a single-storey structure and not two-storey building.

He explained that a stop order was issued to the developer due to structural defects and ordered not to proceed to a two-storey building.

He said, however, the developer defied the order and proceeded, making a two-storey building despite being directed to halt the project.

“I called the engineer and he confirmed that the owner had already been stopped from constructing beyond the approved single-storey building. The question is, on what grounds was he proceeding to add another floor?” he said.

“He refused to listen. So someway, somehow, he found his own means to continue to two-storey building. We are going to arrest him, we will not spare that.

“The law must bite and therefore we will take him on. We are now looking for him,” he stated.

The MCE revealed that the Assembly had warned the owner about a year ago to cease construction, but he did not comply with the order.

He stressed that had the developer adhered to the stop-order, the disaster would have been avoided.

“This situation could have been avoided. If the owner of the building could have listened to the former engineer, he would have stopped this construction.”

The collapse of the two-storey apartment building near Da Yesu Ase Supermarket at Adenta New Site in Accra occurred during a heavy downpour on Wednesday evening (June 3, 2026).

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) subsequently conducted a search and rescue operation.

Through a coordinated rescue effort, four of the five trapped occupants — Fred Atagba, Solomon, Seyeram Dzigda, and David Dzigda were pulled out alive with injuries and conveyed to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment. A dog also trapped in the debris was successfully rescued alive.

However, the remaining victim, Margaret Kpeli, was retrieved from beneath the rubble in an unconscious state following intensive search efforts. She was handed over to the Adenta District Police for preservation and further investigation.
