The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued an impact-based weather alert warning of more rains, thunderstorms and strong windAs across parts of southern Ghana on Tuesday, June 30, urging the public to remain vigilant against potential weather-related hazards.
According to the weather update issued at 0800 UTC, a slow-moving rainstorm located off the coast of Benin is expected to move westwards, bringing increased cloud cover and triggering thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall across several regions.
The Agency said the Greater Accra, Volta, Eastern and Central regions are expected to experience thunderstorms and rain from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., while the Western, Ashanti, Ahafo, Bono and Western North regions are likely to be affected from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
GMet classified the immediate weather threat as “Take Action”, indicating an elevated risk of impacts from the anticipated storms before conditions gradually ease later in the day.
The Agency warned that the thunderstorms could be accompanied by slight to moderate winds, posing risks such as falling trees, loose electrical cables, damaged utility poles and other storm-related hazards.
Visibility is also expected to reduce to between 6,000 and 10,000 metres during the period.
Motorists have been advised to drive cautiously, reduce speed and use headlights where necessary, while pedestrians are urged to avoid walking through flooded areas.
Residents in flood-prone communities have also been encouraged to relocate to safer locations where possible until the weather conditions improve.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency said it will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as necessary.
