The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has directed the management of Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) to immediately reverse its decision to temporarily suspend the employment contracts of all staff.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 1, the Ministry said it had taken note of a circular issued by GDCL announcing the temporary suspension of employment contracts pending a comprehensive assessment of the heavy downpour on June 29, 2026, with the directive taking effect immediately.
However, the Ministry said it strongly disagreed with the decision and instructed management to withdraw the directive without delay.
“The Ministry takes a very strong view of the directive and immediately instructs Management to reverse that decision. All GDCL staff are to disregard the directive,” the statement said.
The Ministry noted that the decision was particularly inappropriate at a time when many staff members had been personally affected by the devastating floods that struck parts of Accra on June 29.
“At a time when staff have been personally affected by the June 29th floods, the Ministry stands with its staff and the staff of all our agencies,” it stated.
The Ministry further disclosed that the management of Ghana Digital Centres Limited had been invited to a meeting on Thursday, July 2, following the Minister’s visit to the Centre on Tuesday, June 30.

According to the statement, the meeting will enable the Ministry to assess the extent of damage caused by the floods to the facility and businesses operating within the premises, as well as discuss the circumstances surrounding the suspension directive.
The Ministry’s intervention effectively halts the implementation of the suspension notice issued by management of GDCL to all staff.
A notice to all GDCL staff and signed by the Chief Executive Officer announced that following the heavy downpour on June 29, 2026, the company has suffered damages to its infrastructure and operational facilities.
The notice said the flood waters overwhelmed the office premises, disrupted normal operations and rendered its community temporarily inaccessible.
For this reason, management of GDCL decided to temporarily suspended employment contracts of all staff effective Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

The company said it intends to recall staff pending comprehensive assessment, cleaning and restoration of the facilities.
“You are by this notice required to submit your Laptop(s) and other assets of GDCL in your possession to the HR on or before Thursday, July 2, 2026 and be issued receipt for submission.
“Please note that salaries for June, 2026 will be paid in due course,” the notice concluded.
