The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has said it is working to identify five bodies recovered following Monday’s devastating floods to determine whether they are among the seven people previously reported missing.
He noted that the bodies were retrieved at Weija, Ledzokuku and Central Ayawaso areas.
Richard Amo Yartey, Director of Inspectorate at NADMO, said officials are carrying out identification procedures before confirming the identities of the deceased.
“What I know is that bodies have been found and we are trying to identify them and match them up with the seven persons listed as missing,” he said in an interview on TV3’s Ghana Tonight, July 1, 2026.
According to Mr. Amo Yartey, five bodies were recovered on Wednesday, July 1, but authorities are yet to establish whether they belong to those earlier reported missing.
“We have found some bodies today (Wednesday, July 1), but we have not confirmed whether they are the bodies of the seven listed as missing. We are now doing the necessary identification. Based on that, we will know whether it is the missing persons that we have found or additional persons who we have discovered,” he stated.
He said the identification process is ongoing and assured the public that official updates would be provided once the exercise is completed.
On Tuesday June 30, Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak told Parliament that 38,802 people were displaced and 12 lives lost following Monday’s (June 29) devastating floods that swept through parts of Greater Accra, while seven others were reported missing as of Tuesday morning.
According to the Minister, the floods displaced 7,761 households and affected 25 communities across 16 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, disrupting movement and preventing many commuters from accessing Accra’s Central Business District.
