The National Executive of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) wishes to inform members that it has commenced a comprehensive review of the Association’s annual Media Awards Scheme as part of preparations for the organisation of the landmark 30th GJA Media Awards.
For nearly three decades, the GJA Media Awards have remained Ghana’s most prestigious platform for recognising and celebrating excellence in journalism.
As the Association prepares for the historic 30th edition, the National Executive is determined to make the Awards more responsive to the changing media landscape while preserving the integrity, credibility and prestige that have characterised the scheme over the years.
In this regard, the Nati onal Executive is inviting all members of the Association to submit proposals, recommendations and suggestions on how the Awards Scheme can be strengthened. Members are also encouraged to share ideas on activities and innovations that will make the 30th GJA Media Awards a grand, memorable and befitting celebration of excellence in Ghanaian journalism.
Specifically, members may submit suggestions on, but not limited to:
· Award categories.
· Eligibility criteria.
· Judging and assessment processes.
· Award presentation and event organisation.
· How to make the 30th edition special.
· Any other proposals that will enhance the quality, credibility and impact of the Awards.

The submission window opens on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, and closes on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
The National Executive values the views and experiences of members and is confident that their contributions will help shape a more robust Awards Scheme that reflects the aspirations of the Association and the journalism profession.
The Association therefore encourages all members to actively participate in this important review process and looks forward to receiving constructive and innovative proposals.
The 30th GJA Media Awards promises to be a truly grand and historic occasion, celebrating not only excellence in journalism but also the enduring legacy of the Association since its establishment in 1949. Although the Association has been in existence for more than seven decades, the Awards have been organised 29 times, with no ceremonies held during certain periods due to prevailing national and institutional circumstances.
As the GJA prepares for this landmark 30th edition, the National Executive is determined to make it a fitting celebration of the Association’s rich history, the resilience of the journalism profession and the outstanding contributions of media practitioners and distinguished personalities to Ghana’s democratic development.
