A 40-year-old man identified as Yaw Nyarko, who was alleged to have attempted to rape a woman, has been killed by the woman’s 28-year-old brother, Bismarck Gbafa, at Akyem Batabi in the Eastern Region.

The suspect, Bismarck Gbafa, is currently in police custody assisting with investigations after voluntarily surrendering to the Akyem Oda Police.

Residents said the deceased had allegedly attempted to rape Celina Gbafa earlier in the day but was unsuccessful.

According to reports, when Celina returned home, she narrated to her brother that while returning from her farm at Akyem Batabi, Yaw Nyarko allegedly struck her with a stick and attempted to rape her.

She reportedly managed to free herself from his grip despite Nyarko being armed with a machete and escaped. Her account reportedly enraged Bismarck Gbafa, who allegedly pursued Yaw Nyarko.

During the confrontation, Bismarck Gbafa allegedly slashed Yaw Nyarko on the left leg with a machete, causing severe bleeding. The victim reportedly collapsed and later died from his injuries.

Realizing that Yaw Nyarko had died, Bismarck Gbafa surrendered himself to the Akyem Oda Police and informed officers about the incident.

The body of the deceased, Yaw Nyarko has been deposited at the Akyem Oda Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy, while police continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
