A 19th-minute penalty strike by Fenerbahce forward Marie Ngah Manga ensured that Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses pick all three points, beating the Black Queens in their second group game at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
A handball in the penalty area by Benedicte Simon handed the Lionesses the opportunity to get an early goal at the Moulay Rachid Stadium on Sunday, August 2.
Ngah Manga stepped up and made no mistake as she sent goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan Fiindib the wrong way, slotting the ball at the right side of the goal for her third goal so far at the tournament.
Substitute Evelyn Badu appeared to have found the equaliser but this was ruled out by Egyptian referee Shahenda El Maghrabi.
With the win, the three-time runners up qualify to the quarter-finals while the other three-time runners-up, the Queens, face off with Mali in an all-to-play-for encounter on Thursday.
Cameroon will concurrently play Cape Verde, who lost 2-3 to the Mali to be eliminated from their debut tournament.
