The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has disclosed that it will petition the Supreme Court, Presidency and Parliament on Thursday, August 6 during its protest over ‘Democracy Under Attack’.
The party at a press conference on Wednesday, August 5 outlined the route and programme for its nationwide demonstration.
Addressing the media, the party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, said participants will begin assembling from 5:00 a.m. at the community centre opposite the Supreme Court.
According to him, the first petition will be presented to the Supreme Court before demonstrators proceed along the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel road, through the Efua Sutherland Ridge Roundabout and the Ako-Adjei Interchange, ending at the main entrance of Jubilee House to present a second petition to the President.
Mr. Boakye added that a separate delegation comprising the party’s parliamentary leadership and some party elders will deliver a third petition to Parliament.
He said the Ghana Police Service has been formally notified of the demonstration and has agreed on the designated route with the organisers.
“The Ghana Police has been duly notified of this demonstration. We have had meetings with them, we have agreed on the routes and they have assured us they are going to provide security,” he stated.
The party says the protest is not geared towards causing any disorder but an appeal to all constitutional office holders and institutions to uphold the principles of justice, fairness, impartiality, accountability, due process and institutional independence.
