Jude Michelle, a third-year Political Science student, has secured a decisive victory in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) SRC elections, sweeping the polls with 10,436 votes—representing 56.71% of the total votes cast.
The victory makes her the second female SRC President in KNUST’s history, following Yvonne Adobea, who broke the barrier as the university’s first female SRC President during the 2023/2024 academic year.
Michelle’s path to the presidency required persistence. A former student of Aburi Girls’ Senior High School, she contested the presidency for two consecutive years before securing her historic win.
Her journey was far from simple, as the sole female candidate in a nine-way race against eight male contenders, she faced heavy pushback from critics who were unsupportive of her candidacy.
Opponents repeatedly played the gender card, pointing to alleged shortcomings of the first female presidency to argue that Michelle was equally unfit to lead.
Despite the backlashes and intense scrutiny, Michelle maintained a clear focus on her platform and student welfare, building a movement across campus that translated into a dominant result at the polls.
Kelvin Obeng Fosu placed second in the contest with 4,024 votes (21.8%), followed by Forstell Ehun in third place with 1,981 votes, and Nana Yaw Boateng in fourth after securing 1,172 votes.
When the final results were declared, the KNUST student body delivered an overwhelming mandate, proving that persistence and vision ultimately redefine history.
