Two people have been confirmed dead with five others in critical condition following a gory accident involving a Metro Mass Transit bus and a Scienta bus near the Obiri Yeboah Senior High School at Assin Fosu in the Central region.

Reports indicate the accident occurred around 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2026, with two of the deceased identified as Speedoo, owner of the Scienta vehicle, and his friend, Bongo, an apprentice welder at Assin Bereku.

The two vehicles allegedly collided head-on, leaving the two people dead and others injured.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived at the scene after the incident to cut open the mangled Scienta vehicle to evacuate the passengers who were trapped inside.

The injured, including three children who were purchasing airtime by the roadside are currently receiving treatment at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital at Assin Fosu.

Officers from the Ghana Police Service joined the fire personnel to manage traffic to ensure free flow of vehicles on the stretch.

Meanwhile, bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital pending autopsy.
