The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western North region has elected new regional executives with a pledge to rebuild the party and reclaim parliamentary seats lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 general elections.

Pious Vincent Abakah emerged as the new Regional Chairman after polling 100 votes.

Former Juaboso District Chief Executive, Martha Kwayie Manu, secured 9 votes, while another contender, McDaniels, obtained 85 votes.

The former Regional Chairman, who was also in the race, subsequently withdrew and threw his support behind McDaniel Nyame .

The election also saw a change in the leadership of the party’s youth wing, with incumbent Regional Youth Organiser Kwabena Asiedu Amankwah losing his position to Gideon Brenya Agyapong.

New Chairman promises 2028 victory

Speaking after his election, Mr Abakah pledged to work with the newly elected executives to unite the party and strengthen its grassroots structures ahead of the 2028 general election.

He said the new leadership would adopt fresh campaign strategies aimed at winning back constituencies currently held by the NDC.

Mr Abakah also expressed confidence that a united NPP could return to power in 2028, with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia leading the party.

Secretary retains position

Meanwhile, the two-term Regional Secretary, Felix Foster Ackah, retained his position.

Mr Ackah thanked delegates for renewing their confidence in him and said the election had demonstrated that the party’s spirit was returning.

He urged the newly elected executives not to underestimate the NDC, stressing the need for unity and a strong grassroots campaign ahead of the next general election.

New communication team promises accountability

The newly elected Regional Communication Officer, Addo Harry, also pledged to lead an effective communication team to hold the NDC government accountable for its promises to Ghanaians and residents of the Western North Region.

The new executives are expected to begin the task of rebuilding the party’s structures and strengthening its electoral machinery as the NPP looks to improve its fortunes in Western North ahead of the 2028 general election.

The NPP currently holds only one of the Western North Region’s nine parliamentary seats following the 2024 election, while the NDC won the remaining eight.
