The family of veteran Ghanaian actress Grace Nortey has appealed to the public, media practitioners and well-wishers to respect their privacy as they mourn the passing of their beloved family member.
In a press release announcing her passing on August 28, the family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers and kind messages received following the death of the celebrated actress.
The family, however, appealed for understanding and space during this difficult period as they come to terms and mourn with their loss.
“We are grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and kind messages. As we grieve, we kindly ask for the family’s privacy to be respected during this time,” the statement said.
Grace Nortey, whose remarkable career spanned more than five decades, was celebrated for her immense contribution to Ghana’s theatre, television and film industries.
While the nation remembers her as a gifted actress and a legendary figure in the creative arts industry, her family described her as much more as a sister, mother, grandmother, matriarch and the heart of the family.
Details regarding her funeral arrangements and final rites, the statement added, would be announced by the family in due course.
As tributes continue to pour in from across Ghana and beyond, the family is urging the public and the media to show their support not only through messages of condolence but also by giving them the privacy and time needed to grieve.
She passed on in the early hours of August 6, 2026 at the University of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC). Her legacy will forever be remembered.
