Former Subin Member of Parliament, Eugene Boakye Antwi, says he will not seek re-election as General Secretary if he fails to deliver victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2028 general elections.
He says he is a principled person who stands by his word and will not cling to office if he is unable to achieve his core mandate of winning the presidency and increasing the party’s parliamentary numbers to at least 110.
Speaking on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, on Monday, August 31, 2026, Boakye Antwi said he would consider himself to have failed, if the NPP loses the 2028 elections under his leadership as General Secretary.
According to him, those currently in office who superintended over the party’s poor performance should not have the moral right to face delegates again, because they have committed worse offences than what they previously accused others of.
“Oh yes, I’m a principled person. People must be principled and principled with their works. If those people out there had principles, they would not have the guts to even go and face the delegates. Because you’ve done worse of the charges you accused someone of,” he said.
He stressed that his word is his bond, explaining that his upbringing taught him to be accountable for his actions, unlike others he described as dishonest.
“So if I come today and I’m not able to increase the numbers to about 110 or what I’m looking for, nobody will ask me to step down. I was raised by a white man and my word is my bond. I’m not one of those dishonest people,” he stated.
The former legislator added that if delegates make him General Secretary and he is unable to deliver the presidency for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the party, or increase its parliamentary seats, he will not contest the position again.
“It today NPP makes me General Secretary and I’m not able to deliver presidency for Bawumia and the party or increase our votes, the next election [I won’t contest again],” he declared.
Mr. Boakye Antwi is eyeing the NPP General Secretary position as the party rebuilds for 2028. He declared his intention to contest the General Secretary position of the NPP as it prepares for its national executive elections on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

Born on May 7, 1970 at Baman Kwabre in the Ashanti region, Bokye Antwi is a banker and businessman cum politician.
He holds a Higher National Diploma from Westminster College, UK, a BA in Business Administration and a PGDIP in Market Research from the University of Westminster.
He worked with Barclays Bank, now ABSA, from 1999 to 2002, served as Administrator at the UK’s Lord Chancellor’s Department from 2002 to 2006, and was Director of EUGASS Limited from 2006 to 2016.
Politically, he rose through the NPP UK and Ireland branch before winning the Subin seat, which he held from 2017 to 2025. He also served as Deputy Minister of Works and Housing.
He is campaigning on a five-point UNITE agenda – Unite the party, Nurture the grassroots, Improve discipline and internal efficiency, Transform engagement and rebuild trust, and Execute a winning strategy for 2028. His mantra on the campaign trail has been “No discipline, No power.”
