A political analyst and lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere, has described the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) just-ended National Delegates Conference as an election held out of spite.

He says after losing the 2024 general elections, the NPP should have charted a new path for reform by electing men of valour to lead the party. However, the outcome of the exercise on Saturday, October 3, 2026, shows only two of the elected executives are worthy of their positions.

Speaking on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, Dr. Asante Otchere said he has christened the election ‘obi ho ahi nti’, to wit, out of spite for someone.

“If you look at how they lost the 2024 election, they should have charted a new path for reform. With that, you should have taken men of valour to lead them but looking at those they elected, only two of them are worth the positions but the rest are not worth it,” he stated in Twi.

Dr. Asante Otchere said the party should have focused on electing competent persons who can appeal to the majority of Ghanaians and not just party people.

He questioned why delegates who previously voted against John Boadu in favour of Justin Kodua Frimpong for General Secretary have now elected that same Boadu as National Chairman to supervise Kodua, who still remains General Secretary.

In effect, he argued that, the person delegates once considered inferior to Kodua for the General Secretary position has now been elevated to Chairman, a position superior to the very role they rejected him for.

“For instance, John Boadu lost to JFK [when they both contested General Secretary], have the things that made you vote against him changed? If not, why give him Chairman which is higher than the General Secretary? Obi ho ahi nti? Same John Boadu was involved in the galamsey allegations with Ekow Ewusi and the ‘party hia sika’ [to wit the party needs money’ issues. Also, how many votes did he garner for the party in 2024?” he queried.

On the First Vice Chairmanship position, the political analyst also questioned the choice of Kojo Fosu Boadu, popularly known as Kojo Bamba, over prominent figures like Nana Akomea and Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B.

“1st Vice, you jumped Nana Akomea, jumped Nana B and chose Bamba? Who is this Bamba? A former Delta Force member? Obi ho ahi nti?” he added.
