Nana Kwaku Bonsam, a notorious fetish priest, has proposed that the National Cathedral project should be relocated to the Atwea Mountains in the Ashanti region.
He says the current site should be used to build a hospital to support the 37 Military and Korle Bu Teaching Hospitals to provide healthcare for Ghanaians.
His proposal follow comments by the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, that he supports the idea of a National Cathedral, but have concerns about its current location and source of funding.
Ayariga, during his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament Thursday, August 27, 2026, said the chosen location could worsen traffic congestion and questioned why available land along the coast was not considered.
He also said he opposes the original location because it involved demolishing residences of senior judges.
Adding his voice on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Nana Kwaku Bonsam said Atwea Mountains is a more suitable spiritual location for the project.
“Why don’t they build it at Atwea Mountains and use the site to build another hospital in addition to 37 Military Hospital and Korle Bu,” he asked host, JB, in Twi.
Kwaku Bonsam explained that Atwea Mountains is where pastors go to pray and there is vast land available, explaining how he could use his relationship with the chief to give government land to execute the project.
“Atwea Mountains is where all the pastors go and pray. There is vast land there and the chief is my friend. We should go to him to give us land and use the current site to build a hospital,” he stated.
He suggested that the proposed hospital could serve as a dialysis facility for the country. “We can use the hospital to build a dialysis facility. The place is no more National Cathedral but National Hospital land,” he added.
