Founding member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has questioned the attitude of the current leadership of the party towards dissenting views.
According to him, unlike the founding fathers of the party, current leadership do not want to take advice.
The Statesman, who is also a former Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro says under the leadership of giants like BJ Da Rocha, R. Amponsah, J.H Mensah and others, suggestions were tolerated and listened to.
Speaking in an interview with JB, host of Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, in his house on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the prominent Ghanaian medical doctor and politician said it is worrying that young leaders of today see anyone who offers a divergent view as an enemy.
“If you’re in any society, be it a political party or any society and you’re unable to pinpoint certain things that are going wrong, then you’re of no use to that particular society,” he said.
“BJ Da Rocha, R. Amponsah, J.H Mensah, Kwame Pianim, K.G. Osei Bonsu, Odoi Sykes, Peter Ala Adjetey, these were giants, I. C. Quaye. Even when we are facing these giants and there’s something we believe can be done differently, we suggested, they listened. So, why can’t we do it now?” he quizzed.
According to him, sharing views on issues affecting the party does not make one anti-party, a misconception he said is affecting young politicians.
“Trying to come out with your views on certain issues doesn’t mean you’re anti and that is the problem facing you young people. When you’re in any group, be bold to speak your mind, provided you don’t offend anybody,” he advised.
When asked whether his comments could hurt some people within the party, the outspoken statesman responded: “To hell with the person, I don’t care. It is the association that is important not the individual. The individual can get offended I don’t care.”
