Two persons have been picked up by the Police in Accra for allegedly engaging in bribery activities in relation to the placement of students into senior high schools under the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
The suspects, named as Vicentia Appiah Antwi, 24, and Suzzy Owusu, 18, are alleged to have collected money from victims under the pretence of securing placement into their preferred senior high schools.
The arrests were made at about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2026, at the CSSPS Resolution Centre by a team from the Ministry of Education, acting on directives of the sector minister, Haruna Iddrisu, leading to their handover to the Police.
According to the Police Criminal Investigations Department, the two collected between GH¢9,500 and GH¢22,000 per person, depending on the school choice.
The Police say the two have mentioned one Nana Yaw Boateng, said to be a medical doctor in Kumasi at the Kwadaso Hospital, and Alex Asumani, also known as Lexus, as their accomplices.
The arrests follow a report by some of the victims, said to be twin sisters, who reported the demand for bribe to the sector minister and provided evidence alleging that the suspects had lured them into paying money in exchange for assistance with their SHS placement.
In a statement, the Ministry of Education explains that upon receiving the information and reviewing the evidence presented, the minister promptly alerted the security services, leading to the arrest of the two suspects at the Resolution Centre.
The suspects, after interrogation, have since been released on police enquiry bail as investigations continue to apprehend the other suspects and their accomplices.
