The Government in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has facilitated the safe return of 180 Ghanaians from Libya.
A Facebook post by the Foreign Affairs Ministry on Friday, September 25 said the returnees, comprising 153 males and 27 females, including children and infants, arrived in Ghana on Thursday, September 24, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to assist vulnerable Ghanaians stranded or seeking to return home.
They were received by the ECOWAS Resident Representative in Ghana, H.E. Mohammed Lawan Gana, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
Mr Gana welcomed the returnees and assured them that their safe arrival marked an important step towards rebuilding their lives.
He urged them to view their return not as a setback but as an opportunity to begin anew, while encouraging them to make constructive use of available support.
He also urged the returnees to consider opportunities in skills development, entrepreneurship and other livelihood programmes to support their reintegration into their communities.
The repatriation forms part of ongoing cooperation among the Government of Ghana, IOM and ECOWAS to facilitate the voluntary return and reintegration of Ghanaian nationals in vulnerable situations abroad.
The initiative also seeks to promote safe, orderly and regular migration while ensuring that Ghanaian nationals who require assistance receive the necessary support to return home safely.
The returnees are expected to receive appropriate assistance as they begin the reintegration process, with relevant authorities and partners continuing to support their transition and wellbeing.
