Founder and Leader of the United Party (UP), Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, has lamented that 34 years of NPP and NDC governance has left Ghana with the same old problems.
According to him, the country’s roads remain poor, power is unstable, water is not good and the health system is not the best, making the 90s appear even better.
Speaking on Accra-based Atinka TV on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Mr. Kyerematen said Ghanaians now refer to the past as the good old days for a reason.
“For 34 years, it’s either the NPP or NDC. After 34 years, our roads are poor, power is unstable, water is not good, health system isn’t the best and it’s like in the 90s and it appears to be even better then, the reason we call it ‘the good old days’,” he said.
The former Minister of Trade and Industry under the erstwhile John Agyekum Kufuor and William Akufo-Addo’s administrations is on a media tour across the country to remind the public about the readiness of the UP to take the helm of affairs as the 2028 elections loom.
He said if Ghanaians reflect soberly without partisanship, they would agree on the need for change come 2028.
“34 years we are still living with the same problems so if Ghanaians reflect soberly on this and take politics out of it, then they should come to one conclusion that there should be change and introduce a new dispensation,” he stated.
He blamed the situation on the rotational politics between the two parties saying the certainty of the baton falling on either of them upon the failure of the other is the reason Ghana is not making progress.
“Because that musical chairs we’ve been playing is what leads to the political arrogance because they know if it’s not the other one, definitely they would come but something is going to change in 2028,” he added.
