The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Johnson Pandit Asiama, has called on banks to strengthen their risk management frameworks.
He also asked them to adopt sustainable business models, and enhance institutional resilience to safeguard the gains made in Ghana’s banking sector.
Speaking at the 43rd Annual General Meeting of the Ghana Association of Banks (GAB) and the launch of the 6th edition of the Ghana Bankers’ Voice Magazine in Accra on 8 October 2026, Dr Asiama noted that the sector has made significant progress in recent years, citing stronger capital positions, improved financial stability, and a decline in non-performing loans.
He urged banks to build on these achievements by focusing on sound governance, prudent risk management, and innovation.
“Our ambition should be to build a banking sector that is strong enough to absorb shocks, innovative enough to adapt to change, and capable of financing Ghana’s long-term economic transformation,” he said.
The Governor reaffirmed the Bank of Ghana’s commitment to working closely with the banking industry and other stakeholders to foster a sound, resilient, innovative, and sustainable financial sector that supports economic growth and development.
