The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has told the suspended headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Zakaria Abdulai, to pull out of the party’s Juaben constituency chairmanship contest or be disqualified.

The decision is to prevent a candidate under active criminal investigation from contesting for leadership in the party.

Deputy National Communications Director, Julius Anthony, who disclosed the directive on JoyNews on Sunday, October 18, 2026, said the party considers it inappropriate for Abdulai to contest while law enforcement agencies are probing allegations against him.

He said the national leadership has communicated that position to the headmaster, who is also the party’s Juaben Constituency Secretary.

Abdulai is under investigation following a documentary by Manasseh Azure Awuni titled – Inside the Dreaded Headmaster’s Bungalow.

The documentary uncovered allegations of sexual harassment, assault and rape involving female students of Obuasi SHTS, and examined how complaints against him were handled by authorities.

Following the exposé, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu on October 13, 2026, directed the Ghana Education Service to suspend the headmaster and referred the matter to the CID headquarters.

The documentary revealed that complaints from students, parents and teachers had been lodged long before the suspension, but action was allegedly delayed due to intervention by influential persons.

Abdulai declined to comment when contacted during the investigation, citing the ongoing GES and police probe.
