Two people are feared dead and several others injured in a crash involving an articulated truck loaded with cement, a Toyota Voxy and several motorbikes on the Walewale road.

The deceased are reported to include a female student and a motorbike rider, while several of the injured are said to be in critical condition.

The accident is said to have occurred when the truck, which was travelling from Walewale, collided with the Voxy heading from Bolgatanga towards Tamale. Several motorbike riders were caught up in the crash, with the truck also reported to have hit electricity poles.

Confirming the incident to Accra-based Citi News, the Municipal Chief Executive for West Mamprusi, Mohammed Jabaah, said eight people were injured, although initial reports put the figure at 12.

“There was a collision between the articulated truck, which was carrying POP cement, and the Toyota Voxy. The Voxy lost control, resulting in the accident, involving several vehicles. Two people died and eight were injured,” he said.

The circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear, with conflicting accounts over which vehicle lost control. While initial reports point to the truck, the MCE attributed the cause to the Voxy.

The injured have been transported to the Tamale Teaching Hospital and other health facilities for treatment, as investigations continue to establish the cause of the crash.
