President Donald John Trump has agreed to immediately grant an emergency travel visa to the mother of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong to allow her to travel from Ghana to New York to mourn her son.
New York City Mayor, Zohran Mamdani announced the decision on X on Saturday, October 31, 2026, after a phone call with President Trump.
“The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone from thousands of miles away. Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person,” Mamdani said.

Javits, a 10th-grade student from Ghana, was shot in the abdomen around 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, near Crotona Park in the Bronx while walking to school. He was pronounced dead later at St. Barnabas Hospital.
He had arrived in the US about a year ago to live with his father. The New York Police Department says it is searching for three teenage suspects who remain at large.
The boy’s father said his son was being bullied at school and that two students had recently been suspended for targeting him.
The killing has shaken the community. A vigil was held Friday at the spot where Javits collapsed, with residents and religious leaders praying for an end to the violence.
Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has condemned the attack and said justice will be pursued for the slain young boy.
