“Keep shooting because cinema don’t lie and the shooting will tell people whether I was a good man or a bad man,” Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President had told his personal photographer, Dr. Chris Tsui Hesse.
The above statement was made on the flight from Hanoi to Guinea when Nkrumah had been told of the coup that ousted him as Ghana’s President.
Dr. Hesse, in a one-on-one with Captain Smart Tuesday, March 7, 2023, said the world had called for Kwame Nkrumah to go and mediate some peace talks in Hanoi but was postponed four times because the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had planned to overthrow him.
Upon hearing of the overthrow, Dr. Hesse says Kwame Nkrumah cancelled the Hanoi trip and had to seek a haven since Ghana wasn’t safe for him at the time.
Whilst returning, he says the President asked him if he was taking record of everything that was happening.
His affirmed response made the President go ahead to tell him to keep taking records of events and keep them to tell future generations as to whether he was a good leader or otherwise.
