The Ashanti Regional Communication Bureau of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is alleging top executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are neck deep in the growing galamsey menace.

The NDC specifically mentioned the Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the NPP Dennis Kwakwa, that “he is deeply involved in the galamsey menace including other top executives in the region.”

When asked by host of GhanAkoma, Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin, to withdraw his comment from his platform for possessing no evidence to effect his claims, Abass Nurudeen, who made the allegations insisted that “I know what I’m saying Kofi. You can dissociate yourself from what I’m saying but it’s not mere allegation.”

The Communications Officer for the NDC in Ashanti Region, Abass Nurudeen, speaking on Akoma FM’s current affairs and political show Tuesday, October 4, 2022, explained that he is aware and has reliable information that almost all the national and regional NPP executives have concessions and are assiduously engaging in illegal mining.

The discussion on galamsey has recently become topical after the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, waded into the issue and questioned why the fight has not been successful despite supposed efforts by the government to fight it.

But the NDC in Ashanti region led by Communications Officer, Abass Nurudeen, asserts Mr Kwakwa and other top executives in the NPP are leading the pack in the menace.

Reacting to the NDC’s allegations was member of the NPP Communication team, Baffour Asaase Gyimah. He explained that “though Mr Nurudeen is just making empty allegations, I will advise him to be careful because such insinuations can really cost you your political career but I can categorically say that some of the NPP executives I know are legitimately involved in small scale mining but galamsey, I doubt any of my executives will have himself involved.”
