The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has issued a three-day ultimatum to foreign nationals breaching Ghana’s investment laws.
The Association demands the closure of all retail shops belonging to these foreigners, warning that failure to comply will result in enforcement action.
Their concern is that the involvement of these foreign nationals in retail business not only contravenes investment laws but also distorts competition and threatens the survival of local businesses.
Gifty Lovelock Naana Fianu, General Secretary of the Association, addressing the media on Monday, September 8, 2025, warned that they will be forced to enforce Section 27(1) of the GIPC Act, 2013 (Act 865) through citizens’ arrest if the situation remains same.
She noted that they will engage with the traders today and proceed with their leadership, after which the intervention of the authorities will be sought if the situation remains unchanged.
“We are giving them three days to do this. Today, we will go round, humbly talk to them for them to understand, and then we will talk to their leaders on Wednesday. If they refuse to listen to us, that’s where we will bring in the authorities,” she stated.
She added that: “We will send our letters to the police, give them five days, and then write a letter to all the institutions that are supposed to come in, and from there, we will do what we want to do.”
Some foreign traders, according to reports, have started closing their shops, following the directive by the Association.
