A fire outbreak at Kisseiman, a suburb near Achimota in Accra, has claimed the life of a five month old baby.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started around 2am Wednesday, February 05, 2025, after a candle, placed near a gas cylinder, was left unattended by the baby’s mother, who was allegedly drunk.

Several containers and shops were also destroyed. Firefighters struggled to contain the flames due to the presence of highly combustible materials.

The Assemblyman for the area and the Member of Parliament John Dumelo have visited the scene, assuring affected residents of support and calling for stricter fire safety measures.

Authorities urged residents to practice caution with open flames to prevent similar tragedies.
