A high tension pole belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) along the Ofankor – Nsawam highway was nearly destroyed in the night after a truck loaded with foodstuffs struck it Saturday, January 27, 2024.

The driver who is believed to have traveled from the Bono region might have hit the ECG pylon as a result of inadequate measures put in place to direct motorists in the ongoing Ofankor – Nsawam construction project.

Several pylons belonging to the ECG and other utility service providers have been exposed in the middle of the service roads due to the ongoing road construction.

Even though the contractor has somewhat fenced the pylons with jersey barriers yet it poses a threat to motorists particularly in the night.

Residents of Ofankor, Amasaman and other adjoining communities in the area have equally expressed fret over the situation and demanded the utility service providers reposition their pylons and water lines to avert possible disaster.

The conductor (driver’s mate) of the truck, Kofi Patrick, has been telling Onua News no death was recorded yet the driver sustained minor injuries and had been transported to a hospital at Ofankor for treatment.

He explained that the dusty nature of the road caused the accident as the driver couldn’t see the ECG pylon situated in the middle of the road ahead of him.

“A trailer bypassed us and the driver couldn’t see anything at that moment because of the dust so before he realised he was close to the high tension pole and the accident happened.

“It took the help of other drivers to rescue me and the driver but because I did not sustain any injury I had to stay back and direct the traffic to avoid another accident,” the mate recounted.

He pleaded with the authorities to take immediate action to address the issue by repositioning the ECG pylons along the stretch.
