The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has accused the former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, of not voting for him during his election as Speaker.
He said this is in spite of the fact that Ms Safo is his “daughter.”
According to the Speaker, he had known the three-time Member of Parliament prior to her becoming a lawmaker, but she did not vote for him during his election to become head of the Legislature.
He made the revelation when the family, led by the former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, paid a courtesy call on him to officially communicate the passing of the late Apostle Kantanka to him.
He said Adwoa Safo didn’t vote for him because he knows those who voted for him. “Adwoa Safo is my daughter. I knew her even before she joined me in Parliament. But she did not vote for me to become Speaker. I know those who voted for me,” the Speaker noted.
Speaker Bagbin used the opportunity to encourage the family members to remain united and not fight over their father’s properties.
TV3’s Christian Yalley reports that the Speaker advised them to stay together as one family to give the late industrialist and man of God a befitting burial, instead of engaging in acts that might tarnish the reputation of the revered family.
The founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission and Kantanka Automobiles died on September 11, 2025. His death was announced via a statement released by his daughter, the former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo.
Following the announcement, social media speculation arose over who would take over his empire between the politician and her stepbrother, Kwadwo Safo Jnr.
Amid the speculation, a statement from the family announced that no individual or group should deal with Kwadwo Safo Jnr as a representative of the family.
“The family of the late Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo wishes to inform the general public that no individual, including Mr. Kwadwo Safo Jnr, has been authorised to act on behalf of the family in any transactions related to the businesses of the late Apostle or in connection with the organisation of his funeral. The public is advised to desist from dealing with him on such matters,” the statement read in part.
Meanwhile, the Speaker has added his voice advising that disunity will not auger well for the legacy his father bequeathed.
