The Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has ruled on the issue concerning the forfeiture of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between Nigeria and Libya.
After a 1-0 result in the first leg, the two nations were caught in a web of misunderstanding ahead of the second leg.
The Super Eagles were scheduled to play the Mediterranean Knights in Benghazi on Tuesday, October 15 but had their flight diverted to another airport.
They stayed at the airport for more than 12 hours only for the team, led by captain William Troost-Ekong, to return to Nigeria.
The Libyans, however, appeared on the pitch as scheduled for the game.
According to later narratives, the Libyans had made arrangements to transport the West Africans in a bus to the city where the match was scheduled to take place.
The continent’s sport-governing body assured it would look into the matter.
