Founding Member of the Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), Prof. Baffour Agyeman-Duah, has expressed confidence in the newly appointed Majority Leader, James Agalga, saying his experience in Parliament positions him well to succeed.
Speaking on TV3’s Daily Brief, August 7, the Governance Expert said although his leadership style differs from that of Mahama Ayariga, he will deliver the same efficiency for the Majority side.
“I believe that Mr. Agalga, who has been in Parliament for some time, could play a similar role, but the style will be different because they are two different individuals. I think the effect could be the same,” he noted.
Prof. Agyeman-Duah suggested that the President’s decision to move Mahama Ayariga to the Local Government Ministry was likely driven by the need to strengthen the Ministry.
“The President may have a special reason for moving Mr. Ayariga from that seat to become a minister because perhaps he wants to put some energy into the Local Government Ministry,” he stated.
He also offered a critical assessment of the ministry’s previous leader, indicating that, in his view, he had not performed effectively.
“Frankly, the person who was there previously and has been moved, personally, I don’t think he was effective,” he added.
The Member of Parliament for Builsa North, James Agalga, has been named the new Majority Leader in Parliament following the nomination of Mahama Ayariga as Minister-designate.
3News sources can confirm that the Chairperson of the Defence and Interior Committee has been informed by the NDC General Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey and the outgoing Majority Leader that he will be the next leader of government business in Parliament.
This follows the nomination of Mahama Ayariga to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
President Mahama also nominated Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings as Minister designate of Environment, Science and Technology.
This announcement was contained in a press release issued by the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu on August 7.
