Captain Smart has on Thursday October 27, 2022, alleged on his show that the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, is rooting for the position of Finance Minister.

This follows calls for the resignation or sacking of Finance Minister, Kenneth Ofori-Atta for his poor performance.

“Now the Agric. Minister says he can be the Finance Minister. He is strongly lobbying for the Finance Minister position,” he alleged.

Captain Smart was chastising the Majority caucus who are calling for the Finance Minister’s head for his stinking performance that has depreciated the Ghana Cedi against major currencies on a record high amidst high cost of fuel and its associated spiraling inflation.

After some 80 Majority caucus MPs held a press conference in Parliament Tuesday, calling for the Minister’s ousting, the Minority caucus also filed a Motion of Censure which has been admitted by the Speaker of Parliament, Albert Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

According to a Facebook post made Thursday by North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a secret ballot for the minister’s removal would take place on November 10.

President Akufo-Addo has, however, called on the Majority to grant Mr. Ofori-Atta some time to complete the 2023 budget preparation as well as negotiations with the International Monetary Fund for Ghana’s bailout.

Meanwhile, many experts have flawed the intervention saying the IMF doesn’t deal with individuals but rather nations, just as a budget statement is prepared by a consortium but not an individual.

Speaking Thursday on Maakye, Captain Smart maintained the minister should be retained to clean the mess he created when he heeded to no advice.

He also held that whilst the minister was presenting weak and fiscally anaemic budget in Parliament, the Majority were singing ‘aba mu awie’ in his honour, asking them to bear the blunt for their deeds.

Questioning who it is in the NPP to inherit the disaster the minister has created, Captain Smart said the Agric minister, despite campaigning to become flagbearer of the NPP is still lobbying to be made the Finance Minister should Ofori-Atta be eventually sacked.
