Residents of Kumasi trooped to the forecourt of the Asokwa M/A Basic School on Saturday, August 16, 2025, to join in the fun of a communal food bazaar organised by Akoma FM, a subsidiary of the Media General Group in the Ashanti region.

Amidst the fun-fair, some lovers of the local dish, fufu, say they were saved the cost of lunch as they were fed for free at the bazaar.

Patrons were treated to fufu with assorted soup, including ‘abunuabunu’, light soup, chicken soup, goat soup, from selected chop bar operators in the Kumasi metropolis.

Access to an earthenware bowl qualified all patrons to join the Fufu Party.

“I was here the last time to eat fufu. For sometime now, I have not eaten fufu. That is why I rushed here to have a bowl. I am also an ardent listener of Akoma FM and wouldn’t mind sponsoring this programme if I’m alive next year,” said one of the patrons.

Another patron, Akosua Serwaa added, “I just got here. I have been given a bowl of fufu with meat. This food would have cost me about 60 cedis if I bought it outside. Today, my lunch money has been saved.

“I went for a first round of fufu with light soup. I am now on my second round with chicken soup. Akoma FM, continue to feed us every year.” added another patron.

Sponsors of the Akoma FM Fufu Party say the event exceeded their expectations.

Pomo, Volta Catch, Grofynne Herbal Tonic, Ayekoo Season powder, Medimafo Herbal, Kumasi Bitters and others were on board as sponsors.

They praised the organizers for a well-coordinated event, especially in the positioning of their stands to attract patrons to their brands. They want the event to be organised quarterly.

“The live band performances, and our presenters, made them enjoy the show. Comparing the fufu parties held in previous years, this edition is the best,” they said.

They said their stands recorded a high turnout of patrons who made enquiries and purchases.

They suggested the inclusion of more artistes in subsequent editions to make the event even more exciting.
