In celebration of this year’s Mothers’ Day, on Sunday, May 10, 2026, 300 widows and single mothers in the Ashanti region were treated to a party at the forecourt of New Amakom M/A Basic School at Asokwa.
The fun-filled Mother’s Day event had the mothers enjoying good music as they consumed hot meals and drinks.
Nestle Ghana was at hand to serve the mothers with Maggi, while Kumasi South Hospital offered free health screening to the beneficiaries.
All the mothers also received hampers as appreciation of their efforts.
It was not just about the screening but participants were treated to good music, entertainment and health education from medical professionals.
Senior Midwifery at the Kumasi South Hospital, Stella Kabah, disclosed that the exercise has generally been successful.
She said the predominant condition that was highlighted was BP conditions, which account for stroke cases in Ghana.
She lamented that the BP cases recorded were high, and yet , individuals were not concerned or paying attention to them.
She advised some of the participants to visit any health facility to be examined.
There was also cooking competition among some women groups in the Ashanti Region.
They include Presbyterian Women Fellowship, ‘Odo Ne Nteasee Fun Club’, Glory Life Assemblies of God Women Ministry, Sisters Fun Club and Akoma Fun Club Dumanafo.
They prepared various local dishes for our mothers on their special day.
Some widows expressed appreciation for the opportunity to join in the celebration.
“Thank you Akoma FM, for celebrating the day with us, and as we will ask for more of such events,” said a beneficiary.
The event was organised by Akoma FM with support from Nestle Ghana brand Maggi.
The Ashanti Regional Sales Manager of Nestle Ghana , Eric Ntiri_Darko, said the programme forms part of the organization’s corporate social responsibility.
“We decided to give out to widows and single mothers this year, and we felt the Akoma FM brand as the best to associate ourselves with. We’re looking forward to more partnerships,” he stated.
The Head of Station, Akoma FM, Ransford Nana Osei Asare, said this year’s event has been overwhelming compare to last year.
Last year the event attracted 150 and this year 300. Kumasi has accepted what Akoma FM is offering them.
He said giving back to society is an act the station cherishes most.
“This is something we have always championed and I must say I’m happy this year’s event has been a success. I want to say a big thank you to our sponsors and participants.
