Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana, has named Henry Nana Boakye, Nana Akomea and Richard Ahiagbah as the three strongest candidates in the NPP National Vice Chairmanship race.

Speaking on Ghana Tonight on TV3 on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, Dr. Asah-Asante said the three have distinguished themselves through their service to the party. “These three are strong,” he said, referring to the trio.

On Nana Akomea, Dr. Asah-Asante said he is a formidable candidate.”Take Nana Akomea for instance; he is a very difficult candidate to beat. He’s very strong. He has ministerial experience, party experience and he is very good,” he said.

He described Richard Ahiagbah as someone who has served the party well. “Richard Ahiagbah has served his party well as Director of Communications. He really discharged his work with distinction,” he noted, adding that “I have no doubt that if you give him the nod, he can also do well.”

On Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, Dr. Asah-Asante said he has been a visible defender of the party. “Henry Nana Boakye, he’s a great guy, he has stood for the party, he’s been the face of the party in terms of the position he occupies as youth leader.”

He added that Nana B “was all over doing party work, championing the cause of the party, defending the party at times in court.”

Dr. Asah-Asante maintained that the contest for the three slots will be tough.”It is a tough one… it’s going to be a tough one,” he stressed.
