Williams Kusi, Counsel for Akosua Serwaa in the injunction application against the funeral of late highlife legend, Daddy Lumba, has said her client is rather the victim in the ongoing feud not second wife, Priscilla Ofori, alias Odo Broni.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, October 16 after court adjourned hearing of the injunction application , Mr. Kusi noted that the family of Daddy Lumba is solidly behind first wife, Akosua Serwaa, noting that one of Lumba’s sister was in court to represent Akosua Serwaa who is currently in Germany.
“I have the sister of Lumba here and she represented Akosua Serwaa in court today and this demonstrates the kind of love the family has for Akosua Serwaa.
“So those out there who are making noise and making statement, they need to understand how all these things played out. And they should know that Akosua Serwaa is the victim not Odo Broni,” he stated.
The lawyer claimed that the position of the Family Head, Kofi Owusu Fosu is the genesis of the ongoing feud.
“Unfortunately, you know the posture of the Head of Family from the beginning, that is the cause of the problem. If letters are written to you, denying you of your rights as a wife, I am sure that you cannot just sleep and let it pass by so that is the originating issue.” he added.
He assured that Akosua Serwaa and her children are committed to honour Lumba’s integrity by giving him a befitting burial.
“We are committed to protecting the integrity of Lumba and we are ready to work within time to ensure that the on the date that has been set, the funeral will come on and that is our project and what we are going to do,” he stressed.
A Kumasi High Court on Thursday, October 16 adjourned until October 28, 2025, the case filed by the musician’s wife, Akosua Serwaa, who is fighting to be declared his only surviving spouse and the sole person entitled to perform the sacred widowhood rites at his funeral.
Though the family has announced December 6, 2025, as the final funeral rites for the iconic singer, the legal showdown threatens to disrupt it.
Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur presided over the hearing on Thursday, October 16, where lawyers for the family head, Kofi Owusu Fosu and Priscilla Ofori known as ‘Odo Broni,’ challenged Akosua Serwaa’s very right to bring the case.
The plaintiff’s legal team fiercely opposed this, insisting the court must first address their request for an injunction.
While adjourning the case to allow for the filing of necessary documents, the judge urged the parties to seek an amicable settlement. She emphasized, however, that the court would prioritize the case if they remained intent on a legal battle.
Akosua Serwaa, who claims to be Daddy Lumba’s only legally wedded wife, is seeking a court order to restrain Odo Broni from publicly presenting herself as the musician’s surviving widow.
In her suit, she states that her marriage to the star was legally binding at the time of his death.
