Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as ‘A Plus’, has described President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as “an opportunist” and a “self-centred person”.

He says the President only keeps in touch with people and shows concern when he needs a favour to his advantage.

A Plus, who is the Member of Parliament-elect for Gomoa Central in the Central region, was speaking on the extended coverage of Ghana Decides 2024 on TV3 Friday, December 13, 2024, when he made the comments.

Johnnie Hughes, co-host of the show, was finding out from A Plus if President Akufo-Addo had called him on his election victory, considering how the musician supported his (Akufo-Addo) campaign and worked with him to become President.

But in his response, the vociferous entertainer cum politician disclosed that the President fell out with him in 2018 when he complained about the misdeeds of some of his appointees, and has never spoken to him since.

However, he relayed that it was Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, outgoing MP for Assin Central and 2024 NPP flag bearer aspirant, who initiated a phone call between him and the President two weeks to the 2020 elections when the President wasn’t sure of his winning chances.

He said President Akufo-Addo asked for his support and has never spoken to him again since, making him describe the President as an opportunist and a self-centred person.

“He has never called me. The last time he spoke to me,…Akufo-Addo is an opportunist and a self-centred person and you can quote me for that. I worked so hard for Akufo-Addo and I liked Akufo-Addo so much. I did everything that I can. We defended him so that he becomes President. When some of his appointees were misconducting themselves and we complained about it, then he fell out with some of us.

“Akufo-Addo never spoke to me since 2018 until two weeks to the 2020 elections when he was not sure whether he was going to win or not. And before that Ken Agyapong had told me on countless occasions that Akufo-Addo wanted to speak to me and I said to Ken Agyapong that, Akufo-Addo, he can be President of the world but he can never get through my phone. I’ll never…so, it was on Ken Agyapong’s phone that I spoke to Akufo-Addo. It was Ken Agyapong who called and said ‘hey, don’t disappoint me please, President is here, take and speak to him’,” he disclosed.

“So, Akufo-Addo has never called me, I was not expecting his call. Akufo-Addo only called me two weeks to the election because he wanted support. Because he was scared and after that, he has never called me but I’ve never shared it here. I know what God has planned for me,” Kwame A Plus reiterated.
